My experience at the 2011 BSMM First Aid competition

I went for a first aid competition organised by BSMM (Johor Bahru Chapter).
Date : 27th to 29th May 2011
Venue : SMK Taman Tun Aminah
fellow teammates are JOYCE, LI JIE, ANDREA, JOEY AND ME!

first day
trained in school for the whole day till 3 and received KINDER JOY with "messages" from Kimberlynn :)
went to my house after that, had dinner and all and rushed to the place as we thought registration was until 8 but, last minute stuff made it until 7 plus. oops!
thankfully, we were still early :D we got to know our zone (there are 3 zones) which is zone C. and we were in C11. I'm beginning to love this number C11 actually ;)

at night we had quiz bee. gosh! in the beginning we were like die die die. we had like so many wrongs but we managed to catch up after that :) we seriously had to whack our brains and think very carefully for each and every question. they were really tricky. in the end, we got first for quiz bee! WEE!!! :D it's in our zone only though, which means it's the semi-finals.
oh and,the toilet was so packed, the line was soooo long that we didn't have a chance to bathe.  so... went to sleep stinking. but we managed to brush our teeth at the canteen and went to toilet to pee at ... if I remember correctly, at one o'clock ;)

second day
woke up at 4.30 am. guess we disturbed the others while walking pass their classrooms (we slept in classrooms) while going to toilet with the sound of our slippers :P but, we still had to line up for the toilet. so you can imagine how early the people in front of us were o.o

we did team test, the worst and on the other hand best ever experience of team test for me. why worst? well, our casualties were screaming their lungs out and we had a battle of voices there trying to calm them down, but in vain. My poor teammates were under heavy stress, seriously. It was tough, and tougher for andrea as the casualty could not understand english?! Do you expect a dark skinned person to speak mandarin?! well, anyway I know we did WELL. we were steady and didn't blow our tops and yeah, we managed to give it our very best.
and the best thing about it and the ONLY best thing was the atmosphere during that 10 minutes. It was very noisy and I could feel the sense of an emergency. to tell the truth, I think the whole school could hear us.

at night, we had relay. It was hard for us to overcome the stress we faced earlier that morning. but many many thanks to our beloved seniors for their encouragement and support that we could overcome it. we were determined to give it our very best and we did. WE DID OUR BEST! :) we ran like crazy as there was a time limit until the officer even told us to be more careful when running. OOPS! :P

those were the semi-finals. and guess what, we got first for our zone! :)) that means we would go to the finals which would be community the next morning. Okay, cool and nervous...

third day
woke up at 5 but we were supposed to wake up at 4.30 am. know why? because Joyce set the alarm at 4.30 am but when it rang, she decided to snooze it for five minutes and it ended up for half an hour xD but, we were still early ;) early enough to have the toilet empty when we went there :D

on the final day, we held hands and prayed before going down [and thanks Li Jie for co-operating! ;)].
after breakfast, the final battle took place between 9 out of 35 teams. We were without a doubt, nervous at first... but community is about being warm and smiles! so yeah, we went in there... with smiles on our faces and gave it our all. Though we didn't do as well as we expected, we knew we tried our best.

that afternoon, we recieved trophies for quiz bee, relay and team test.
We seriously didn't expect anything much for community but, by God's AMAZING grace, guess what?! we got FIRST PLACE for COMMUNITY!! WOW! we were shocked. our seniors even gave a scream of joy! :)

then came the moment everyone was waiting for. the OVERALL results.
9th place was announced, then 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th,
4th,
3rd,
2nd, us. we were like "huh?!" okay, chill. we went out to receive our trophy and medals with the 'black face'. we were expecting to get 1st place since we won community. but, 1st place was won by another team. we were seriously, not satisfied. we went to the officer to clear all the questions in our heads. but in vain, all we could get was "you're really very close."
never mind. forget it. we know we did our best. of course, went home and all of us told our stories to our friends and family. It was frustrating on that day. I told my sister all about it.

However, I've learnt something extremely important and came to my senses today. It was not by our own strength or our own ability that we even achieved second place. It was God. It's His glory. It was by His grace and mercy that we could do that well. My eyes have opened. We were merely aiming for top 3 but to tell you the truth, I didn't even think we could get top 3 for overall.
I've learned to be thankful. It's more than I deserve and I should give God the highest glory. GLORY TO GOD! :)

also, a HUGE THANK YOU of appreciation to my beloved seniors whom without fail, came to visit us and give us strength and support and advice every day of the competition.
